Status of Transfers to County Governments
The Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury & Planning (NTP) and the Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Council of Governors this morning held a consultative meeting to deliberate on the progress in the release of funds to county governments, and wish to jointly state as follows:
The National Treasury has released funds amounting to KES 289.6 billion as Equitable Share to County Governments for the Financial Year (FY) 2020/21.
The outstanding balance amounting to KES 26.9 billion allocation for the month of June 2020/21 shall be released today, thus making a total of Ksh. 316.5 billion, as allocated to County Governments in Division of Revenue Act, 2020.
Additionally, Conditional Grants amounting to KES 28.5 billion have been released to County Governments.
The National Treasury shall give County Governments adequate time to process and transmit payments through the Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS).
The National Treasury and leadership of the Council of Governors further agreed that County Governments will prioritize the settlement of pending bills with the resources that have been released for Financial Year 2020/21. This will enable Counties to meet their important obligation to the private sector and spur economic activity at the county-level as part of the ongoing and inclusive Economic Recovery Programme.
The Cabinet Secretary and Chairman of Council of Governors also committed to continue consulting and cooperating on issues regarding public finance management, so as to ensure uninterrupted service delivery to citizens.
