The Cabinet Secretary Hon. Amb Ukur Yatani today hosted the Insurance Industry as they presented their Ksh 278 million contribution in cash and kind towards the management of the Covid-19 Pandemic. The Insurance Regulatory Authority has also approved a special Covid-19 Insurance product for front line health workers who are involved in the battle against the pandemic. CS Yatani lauded the IRA for the positive gesture during this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. The donation will go towards helping frontline health workers.

 

 

 

The contribution in form of cash and insurance cover and benefits has been contributed by IRA (Ksh 30 Million), Association of Kenya Insurers (37 Million), UAP Old Mutual (180 Million-in Kind) and Prudential Assurance (30 Million-in Kind).

 

The special Covid-19 Insurance product for front line health workers who are involved in the battle against the pandemic include a free Life Cover of Kshs 50,000/= on death of a frontline staff and Hospitalization Cash Benefit of Kshs 1,000/= per day for seven days for healthcare workers diagnosed with COVID-19 and hospitalized at designated government facilities. These covers will run for an initial 3 months and are estimated to cost Ksh 210 million. The products by UAP Old Mutual and Prudential Life Assurance

 

The Commissioner of Insurance and IRA CEO Mr. Godfrey Kiptum said that the Authority and the insurance industry is committed to supporting the government’s efforts towards containing the pandemic.
