National Treasury Principal Secretary, Dr Julius Muia has called on the recently launched Kenya Mortgage Refinancing Company, KMRC, to mount an aggressive awareness creation campaign so that mortgage uptake could significantly support the governments’ universal housing agenda.

He said that while KMRC was set to roll out the noble programme which will guarantee Kenyans access to cheap mortgage, past experiences where people lost their houses instilled fear in many would be mortgage takers.

Dr. Muia made the call today in his office where he was briefed on KMRC mandate by Kenya Mortgage Refinancing Company KMRC officials led by Acting CEO Mr. Johnstone Oletetia.

The PS asked all the partners in the company not to restrict lending to the salaried but come up with products to cover all Kenyans who will qualify especially those in the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

He said that by so doing, the company will enormously contribute to the Government’s big 4 agenda.
