Kenya is set to host the Second High Level Meeting (HLM2) of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation (GPEDC) from 28th November to 1st December this year in Nairobi.

The International Conference scheduled to take place at Kenyatta International Convention Centre seeks to enhance positive impact of development cooperation by taking stock of the implementation of internationally agreed principles of development cooperation through ownership of development priorities by developing countries.

Cabinet Secretary National Treasury Henry Rotich said the meeting will provide a learning space to showcase successful examples and lessons learnt as well as identify innovative approaches to sustainable development goals that can be scaled up.

He said the meeting which also intends to position (GPEDC) as a center of excellence for development effectiveness will provide a significant contribution to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda.

“The SDGs will provide us with a framework to renew our commitment to eradicate poverty and fast track inclusive and sustainable development, take action on climate change and to observe human rights based universal and transformative approach to development.
The CS added that while the SDGs addresses development outcomes, the Global Partnership focuses on development inputs and results.
Speaking today at a breakfast meeting with the Media on the upcoming high level meeting at a Nairobi hotel, Rotich announced that Kenya’s Ministry of Public Service, Gender and Youth Affairs  will champion a flagship topic, ‘On Economic Empowerment of Women and Youth’ at the meeting.
The CS said the discussions on development cooperation which started in Rome in 2003 then Paris, Accra, Busan and finally Mexico in 2014 are based on reduction of cost of doing business between development partners and recipient countries.
“The objective of the meeting is to bring together the full range of development actors to ensure finance, knowledge and policy have maximum impact on development results,” added the CS.
The Global Partnership which was created in 2011 at the fourth High Level forum on Aid Effectiveness in Busan, South Korea brings together development actors around a set of four internationally agreed principles that form the foundation of effective development cooperation, ownership by developing countries, a focus on results, inclusive partnerships and transparency and accountability between development partners.
The partnership helps nations, business and organization work together to end poverty.
The function was also attended by the Principle Secretary National Treasury Dr. Kamau Thugge, Jackson Kinyanjui Director International Resource Mobilization Department, Esther Koimett Director General Public Investment and Portfolio Management and Mutua Kilaka, the Principal Administrative Secretary at the National Treasury.
